- Complex single ventricle anomalies
Your child’s care begins with a complete medical history and a thorough evaluation using the most advanced technologies available to fully understand the scope of the heart condition. Your child’s healthcare team then collaborates to customize an individualized treatment plan to achieve the best outcome possible. Our program’s seamless integration with the Division of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery ensures that patients who require surgery receive continuity of care throughout their treatment and recovery.
We also provide multidisciplinary care to adults with congenital heart defects. As techniques for treating congenital heart defects have improved over the years, so has the survival of children with these conditions, allowing them to reach adulthood. Some adults may need another surgery or catheter-based intervention to revise or improve upon an operation that was performed when they were children. Others may have previously undiagnosed congenital heart disease that did not cause any symptoms until they became adults. Columbia University Medical Center and ColumbiaDoctors employ internationally renowned experts who specialize in the care of both children and adults with all forms of congenital heart disease.
Our Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery team includes advanced practice, specialty nurses with years of experience caring for children with heart disease. Our Pediatric Cardiology Nursing Committee is focused on the comprehensive nursing care of the patients and families in our program.
