Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center

The Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center, located in NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital, offers long-term, family-centered care for children of all ages with Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), a chronic digestive condition that includes Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

About Inflammatory Bowel Disease in Children

Living with IBD can be challenging for children and adolescents, who have to juggle school and social stresses with difficult symptoms and dietary restrictions. Our integrated, collaborative team will help your family identify precise challenges, develop and carry out care plans, and provide support across procedures, treatments, and hospitalizations.

Our team has particular expertise with complex cases of IBD and we provide second opinions for families who are exploring treatment options.

Our Approach to IBD

As a patient in our center, your child will be cared for by a medical team which includes a pediatric gastroenterologist, pediatric nurse practitioner, social worker, and nutritionist. The team may grow to include other specialists with IBD expertise, such as a pediatric surgeon, colorectal surgeon, dermatologist, ophthalmologist, rheumatologist, endocrinologist, immunologist, and geneticist. The IBD Center serves as the primary source of care for children and coordinates care with all specialists.

We offer a range of treatments including nutritional therapy, medication, and surgery. Treatment for IBD is personal and the treatment plan will evolve as your child grows. We work closely with each family to understand all the issues involved before we make recommendations for treatment. Careful monitoring helps us tailor treatment to your child and family.

As children grow into adults, their needs change. Our transition program provides one-on-one support for each child as they transition into an equally comprehensive medical team at Columbia’s adult IBD Center.
