About Jongho Kim

Jongho Kim, M.D., Ph.D, a physician-scientist is board certified in Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging and Attending Radiologist at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Kim earned his medical degree at Seoul National University, Seoul and graduate degree at Chunnam National University, Gwangju, South Korea with scholarship. He subsequently completed an internship at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York and a residency at University of Maryland, with Radiological Society of North America Roentgen Research Award, followed by DOE-fellowship at University of Pittsburgh, and clinical fellowship at Johns Hopkins Medical Institute.

Dr. Kim completed NIH - Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award Fellowship (T-32) at Johns Hopkins. His translational and clinical research focused on human brain mapping of various neuroreceptors as homeostasis to diagnose and treat neuropsychiatric diseases, substance abuse and dementia using quantitative PET/MR as well as human cingulate cortical parcellation of subdivisions on neuroreceptor PET/MR. This project resulted in a book chapter entitled ‘The Nicotine Hypothesis’ and in a publication “Quantitative in vitro multimodal brain autoradiography of glutamatergic, dopaminergic, cannabinoid, and nicotinic receptors in Disrupted-In-Schizophrenia-1 (DISC1) mice”.

He develops quantitative imaging biomarkers for therapy response and prognosis in patients with cancer, for example, recent work includes “FDG PET-based parameters for total tumor burden at diagnosis are highly predictive for outcome in pediatric Hodgkin Lymphoma.” With radiomic research from National Lung Screening Trial, he applied artificial intelligence for dynamic PET kinetic parameters indicating early perfusion and late metabolism (or receptor-ligand interaction in neuroendocrine tumor). His work includes machine learning from preoperative dynamic FDG PET response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy successfully predict lymph node involvement and survival in patients with potentially resectable pancreastic ductal adenocarcinoma with a high accuracy of 83%. In addition, his proposal of shortened dynamic PET protocol enable clinical translation since longer acquisition time limits clinical use of dynamic PET.
