About Maria Shtessel

Maria Shtessel, M.D. joined the Division of Pediatric Allergy, Immunology, and Rheumatology at Columbia University Medical Center as an Assistant Professor of Medicine (in Pediatrics) in August 2018. Dr. Shtessel was born in Russia and raised in Columbia, South Carolina. She graduated from Boston University with honors in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. She earned her M.D. from the Medical University of South Carolina and completed her residency in internal medicine at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She completed her fellowship in Allergy and Immunology at Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Shtessel treats infants, children and adults at the CUMC/New York Presbyterian Morgan Stanley’s Children’s Hospital and at ColumbiaDoctors Midtown office. Her goal is to provide individualized, high quality and compassionate clinical care to her patients. Her clinical interests include drug allergies, anaphylaxis, food allergies, allergic rhinitis, immunotherapy, and atopic dermatitis. She has a particular academic interest in the treatment of adult and pediatric patients with chronic urticaria (hives) and angioedema.
