About Silvia Sloan
Silvia Sloan, M.D. is an Assistant Professor at Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Sloan works as an attending psychiatrist on the inpatient unit at New York Presbyterian - Milstein Hospital. She maintains also a private practice with adults for psychotherapy and medication management. Dr. Sloan's private office is located at Columbus Circle, near Lincoln Center. Dr. Sloan completed her Psychiatry Internship, Residency, and Psychosomatic Medicine Fellowship at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center. Dr. Sloan is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She is also certified in electroconvulsive therapy.
Dr. Sloan's patient-centered approach is warm, evidence-based, and confidential. Dr. Sloan believes that each patient should be evaluated as an individual in the context of one's life circumstances. By understanding a patient's subjective experience and his/her goals, Dr. Sloan offers individualized treatment focused on the person, rather than a disorder. Dr. Sloan can provide psychotherapy only, psychotherapy and medication management, or medication only, as best suited for the patient. She is available for consultations, individual and family therapy, as well as medication evaluations and management.
By combining her expertise in both psychopharmacology and psychotherapy, Dr. Sloan offers not only evidence-based psychiatric treatment but also a path towards long-lasting change and a deeper understanding of the mind. Dr. Sloan assists patients with a range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, low self esteem, feelings of inadequacy and interpersonal issues. Dr. Sloan has a specific interest and expertise in treating individuals with ADHD, PTSD/ trauma, panic disorder, somatic symptom disorders, obsessive compulsive disorders, eating disorders and addiction.
