The Center for Reconstructive Urology

The Center for Reconstructive Urology at Columbia University Medical Center offers a world-class and unique multidisciplinary program in the repair and treatment of complex urologic complications and injuries that are the result of cancer surgery and treatments, surgical misadventures, radiation therapy, and urologic trauma. The Center also offers quality-of-life surgery and interventions to treat problems of urination (voiding), urinary control, and sexual function.

The Center also has extensive expertise in the surgical repair and maintenance therapy of less common problems, such as congenital urologic issues like spina bifida, bladder extrophy, and hypospadias.

The Center is led by Dr. Steven Brandes, a world-renowned surgeon who performs hundreds of reconstructive procedures each year. Dr. Brandes has helped countless patients overcome issues related to strictures of the ureter and urethra, pelvic injuries, urinary fistulas, incontinence, and many uncommon urogenital disorders. Dr. Brandes' experience and expertise, along with ColumbiaDoctors’ collaborative approach to patient care, ensures the best possible outcome for each surgery.

Your care at the Center for Reconstructive Urology will be managed by a personalized team of providers. Key members of the Center include a range of specialists, such as plastic surgeons, colorectal surgeons, pediatric urologists, and gyn-oncologists, who all work together to make sure that the care provided is complete, comprehensive, and compassionate.
