Research

Dr. E. Yoko Furuya's research interests are focused in the areas of hospital epidemiology and antimicrobial resistance. She is a co-investigator on numerous NIH- and CDC-funded grants on topics such as multidrug-resistant gram-negative bacilli, the financial costs of healthcare-associated infections and antimicrobial resistance, and the impact of an automated infection control surveillance system on isolation precautions for/transmission of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). She is also currently working on the evaluation of antimicrobial stewardship interventions on antimicrobial utilization and resistance patterns, as well as the evaluation of a hand hygiene compliance program on the transmission of multidrug-resistant organisms.
