Delivery nurse

A delivery nurse is also called a labor and delivery nurse. They are part of the mother's care team during birth. They have special training to help the mother while she is having her baby. For example, a delivery nurse may help to:

Check on, or monitor, the health of the baby and mother.
Monitor the progress of labor.
Respond quickly in an emergency.
Give medicines.
Coach mothers during labor and delivery.
Give the mother ideas on how to reduce pain during labor.
Tell family members or partners how they can help the mother during labor.
