Squamous cells of the cervix

Squamous cells are cells that are found in the constantly changing (transformation) zone of the cervix where columnar (rectangular-shaped) cells are transforming into squamous cells normally. This area of changing cells is the most common place on the cervix for abnormal cells to develop.

Squamous cells are also found in different parts of the body, such as the top layers of the skin and in the tissue that covers the inside of many organs.
