Endocrine disorders can cause significant medical problems during childhood and adolescence that may have lifelong health and psychological consequences. Our specialists will work with you in a child-friendly environment to develop a highly personalized treatment plan for your child.
Our approach is multidisciplinary and our team includes pediatric endocrinologists, certified diabetes educators, pediatric nurse practitioners, nutritionists, and social workers.
Your family plays an important role on our team. We will thoroughly educate you from initial consultation and diagnosis all the way through treatment and outpatient services. We provide exceptional care and follow-up as our young patients grow, helping them manage their conditions as they transition to adulthood.
ColumbiaDoctors has consistently ranked among the top ten pediatric endocrinology and diabetes programs in the nation by US World and News Report. Several of our faculty are listed in the Best Doctors issue of New York magazine and have received distinction by Castle Connolly Medical, Ltd. We are a major referral center and see some of the most complicated pediatric patients in the country and the world.
Our physicians are actively involved in research and innovation in the field, drawing on the vast resources of Columbia University Medical Center to expand our understanding of endocrine disorders. As a result, our young patients have access to the latest treatments through clinical trials available only at this institution.
We have multiple areas of expertise within the realm of pediatric endocrinology. We are a designated site for the New York State Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH) and Newborn Thyroid Screening Program. We provide specialized care for CAH patients from diagnosis until adulthood and are familiar with all of the issues that may arise for these patients. Our pediatric bone mineral density service specializes in evaluating and treating children with bone disease. Our Adolescent Bariatric Surgery Program provides pre- and post-surgical endocrine care to obese adolescents who undergo bariatric surgery, and the Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center focuses on prevention and treatment of diabetes. The center offers home and school visits, an insulin pump program, and educational programs for children, families, and caregivers.
