Make an Appointment
Our team is here to help you make an appointment with the specialists that you need.
ColumbiaDoctors are pioneers in newborn and neonatal medicine, known for our excellent outcomes and our philosophy of family-centered care. We are continually making new advances in this growing field.
Our specialists are centered at New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital, one of the top children’s hospitals in the nation. The hospital has also been designated a Regional Perinatal Center, offering the highest level of care in the weeks before and after delivery. Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a Level IIIC facility—the highest ranking possible— and our physicians provide outstanding care for the smallest babies and for infants with the most challenging medical conditions.
Our experts at The Carmen and John Thain Center for Prenatal Pediatrics, focus on women with high-risk pregnancies. We routinely diagnose and treat fetal abnormalities ranging from congenital heart issues and genetic disorders to brain and bladder conditions. Our prenatal specialists collaborate with leading authorities in neonatology, pediatric cardiology, neurology, urology, cardiac surgery, and surgery, genetics, and all other pediatric subspecialties, to provide treatment as soon as possible after the child is born.
ColumbiaDoctors physicians developed many of the techniques widely used in perinatal and neonatal medicine today. Our major contributions include the Apgar score for evaluating the health status of newborns, advances in respiratory therapies that minimize lung injury in infants, and significant breakthroughs in neonatal surgery. Learn more about our history.
In fact, we have been caring for newborns for over a century. In 1887, Babies Hospital on 55th Street and Lexington Avenue was the first and only facility in New York specifically for children. In 1929 this hospital moved uptown to join the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center Campus. In 2003, a completely new building was erected on the same site, the NewYork-Presbyterian/Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital.
