ColumbiaDoctors fetal cardiac program, located at NewYork-Presbyterian/Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital, is among the largest in the country. Each year we see more than 1,000 new patients and perform more than 1,900 fetal echocardiograms.
Fetal heart problems detected during pregnancy may be due to primary errors in heart development (congenital heart disease), abnormal heart rhythms, or primary and secondary functional disturbances arising from identical twin pregnancies complicated by twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome or maternal illnesses such as diabetes. We evaluate and care for all forms of fetal heart disease, from minor to the most complex.
We provide the most complete assessments possible using state-of-the-art fetal cardiac imaging technologies, including fetal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Our fetal cardiac program is an integral part of the Center for Prenatal Pediatrics, which enables our multidisciplinary team to perform thorough evaluations, and provide precise diagnoses and the best treatment options and support for families facing complicated pregnancies.
Our experts are fetal cardiologists, maternal-fetal-medicine specialists, cardiac surgeons, neonatologists, and genetic counselors. Each new family’s transition into our care is eased by our nurse coordinators who collaborate with other specialized teams such as general surgery, urology, and more.
