We specialize in providing general and intensive outpatient care for children, adolescents, and adults whose lives are impaired by anxiety disorders and related difficulties.

CUCARD is a comprehensive clinic dedicated to delivering evidence-based treatments for any and all anxiety disorders with a special emphasis on cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). Clinicians work diligently to provide treatments that are supported by research and to personalize and tailor treatment plans to best meet each individual’s and family’s needs. Treatment frequency can range from once weekly to daily for several hours a day, depending on clinical need.

CUCARD offers the following services:

  • Comprehensive diagnostic evaluation
  • Individual cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT)
  • Group cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT)
  • Intensive outpatient treatment (2-5/x weekly) for acute symptoms of anxiety and OCD
  • Psychopharmacology (Medication management)
  • Parenting education and support
  • Community workshops

In addition to treatment for patients, CUCARD also offers community-based workshops to treatment teams, such as local therapists, schools, and community agencies on topics such as utilizing CBT to treat anxiety disorders, school refusal, and OCD.

Our Team

The CUCARD team includes licensed clinical psychologists and advanced post-doctoral fellows and psychology externs who work closely under the supervision of our faculty. This training model affords us the opportunity to deliver high-quality services at a range of costs to our patients. Psychiatrists are also available for therapeutic services, such as evaluation and ongoing medication management.

Our Groups

ABC Parenting Groups

  • Age Range: 3-10
  • Meeting Times: Varies
  • Location: Virtual
  • Focus of Groups: We regularly offer parenting groups for caregivers of children ages ~3-10. Group sessions focus on introducing caregivers to transdiagnostic, evidence-based principles and strategies that can be applied to address a variety of common emotional and behavioral challenges of early childhood, including (but not limited to): attention-seeking behavior, emotional sensitivity, oppositional and defiant behavior, anxious and avoidant behavior, hyperactive and impulsive behavior, and inflexible or rigid behavior. Anxiety Day Program

  • Age Range: 13-18 (grades 9-12)
  • Meeting Times: Daily 9:30-3pm (Thursdays 11:30-3)
  • Location: Tarrytown, NY. 
  • Focus of Group: The Anxiety Day Program (ADP) provides comprehensive, daily treatment for teens who are struggling with anxiety, OCD and/or school avoidance. 

Anxiety Day Program Details

College Readiness Groups

  • Age Range: 18-28, preparing to go (or go back to) college
  • Meeting Times: Will resume in Spring 2024
  • Location: 3 Columbus Circle and Tarrytown, NY. 
  • Focus of Group: Groups are part of our Launching Emerging Adults Program (LEAP). The main aim of the group is to assist emerging young adults with gaining knowledge and skills to aid the transition to college and to foster independence in meeting one’s needs and responsibilities.
     

High School Social Anxiety Groups

  • Age Range: 14-17 (grades 9-12)
  • Meeting Times: Every Wednesday 4-5pm. Group runs continuously. New group members added throughout the year. 
  • Location: Virtual
  • Focus of Group: Groups address anxiety in social situations (e.g., making new friends, participating in class), avoidance, and fear of being negatively evaluated by others.

Middle School Social Anxiety Groups

  • Age Range: 10-13 (grades 5-8)
  • Meeting Times: 1x weekly. Group runs continuously. New group members added throughout the year.
  • Location: Virtual
  • Focus of Group: Groups are ideal for middle school students who have difficulty in social situations due to anxiety resulting in distress, avoidance of interacting with peers and adults, and/or feeling comfortable in school, family, and extracurricular activities.

Parenting Groups

  • Age range: Parents of children 8-14
  • Meeting times: Friday 9-10:30am
  • Location: 155 White Plains Rd #200, Tarrytown, NY 10591
  • Focus of Group: CUCARD Westchester provides an 8-week group for parents of children ages 8 to 14 who struggle to comply with directions, break rules, have a hard time not getting their way, or have trouble focusing and/or sitting still. In this group, parents learn the essentials of behavior change, including how to increase desirable behavior and decrease problem behavior, apply appropriate rewards and consequences, gradually shape more difficult behaviors, and work with schools to continue progress made at home in the classroom. Children do not need to be current patients at CUCARD Westchester for parents to participate in this group.

Parents of Young Adults Groups

  • Age Range: Parents of young adults ages 18-28
  • Meeting Times: We are currently offering two different times for our parent groups - Tuesdays 11:30-12:30 and Fridays 12-1
  • Location: Virtual
  • Focus of Group: A component of our Launching Emerging Adults Program (LEAP) at CUCARD, this group is ideal for parents of young adults who have been experiencing distress or have struggled to meet the demands of emerging adulthood due to anxiety.
     

YAC (Youth Anxiety Center) Social Anxiety Groups

  • Age Range: 18-28
  • Meeting Times: Mondays 12-1
  • Location: 155 White Plains Rd #200, Tarrytown, NY 10591
  • Focus of Group: Part of our Launching Emerging Adults Program (LEAP), this group is intended for young adults ages 18-28 who are experiencing distress or interference in functioning due to social anxiety. Groups are presented in an exposure-based approach to reduce anxiety and increase self-efficacy in managing anxiety-provoking and developmentally challenging situations (e.g., job/college interviews, dating, assertiveness).
