Our Expertise
We specialize in providing general and intensive outpatient care for children, adolescents, and adults whose lives are impaired by anxiety disorders and related difficulties.
CUCARD is a comprehensive clinic dedicated to delivering evidence-based treatments for any and all anxiety disorders with a special emphasis on cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). Clinicians work diligently to provide treatments that are supported by research and to personalize and tailor treatment plans to best meet each individual’s and family’s needs. Treatment frequency can range from once weekly to daily for several hours a day, depending on clinical need.

In addition to treatment for patients, CUCARD also offers community-based workshops to treatment teams, such as local therapists, schools, and community agencies on topics such as utilizing CBT to treat anxiety disorders, school refusal, and OCD.

Our Team
The CUCARD team includes licensed clinical psychologists and advanced post-doctoral fellows and psychology externs who work closely under the supervision of our faculty. This training model affords us the opportunity to deliver high-quality services at a range of costs to our patients. Psychiatrists are also available for therapeutic services, such as evaluation and ongoing medication management.
Our Groups
Adult Independence Skills Groups
- Age range: 18-28
- Meeting times: 1x per week (90 minutes) for 10-12 weeks, OR intensively (3x or 5x per week for 1, 2, or 3 weeks)
- Location: 3 Columbus Circle
- Focus of Group: Groups are offered as a part of our Launching Emerging Adults Program (LEAP) and are for emerging adults (ages 18-28) who are having difficulty managing the transition into adulthood. The main aim of the group is to assist young adults with gaining independence and mastering daily tasks.
Adult Social Anxiety Groups
- Age range: 28+
- Meeting times: 1x per week (90 minutes) for 10-12 weeks, OR intensively (3x or 5x per week for 1, 2, or 3 weeks)
- Location: 3 Columbus Circle
- Focus of Group: Groups are for adults who experience anxiety in social situations. Groups focus on building coping skills, cognitive reframing to challenge anxious thoughts, and exposure exercises in session and in-vivo to reduce anxiety in social situations.
BUDS Program
- Age range: 6-9
- Meeting times: Summer program; Monday through Friday, 9:00 am-3:00 pm
- Location: The School at Columbia (556 W 110th Street, New York, NY)
- Focus of Group: B.U.D.S. is a summer treatment program run by the Program for ADHD & Disruptive Behavior at Columbia University Medical Center. This 4-week summer program is intended for young children who demonstrate mild to moderate disruptive behavior.
College Readiness Groups
- Age range: 18-28, preparing to go (or go back to) college
- Meeting times: 5x per week (90 minutes) for 2 weeks
- Location: 3 Columbus Circle
- Focus of Group: Groups are part of our Launching Emerging Adults Program (LEAP). The main aim of the group is to assist emerging young adults with gaining knowledge and skills to aid the transition to college and to foster independence in meeting one’s needs and responsibilities.
High School Social Anxiety Groups
- Age range: 14-17 (grades 9-12)
- Meeting times: 1x per week (90 minutes) for 10-12 weeks, OR intensively (3x or 5x per week for 1, 2, or 3 weeks)
- Location: 3 Columbus Circle
- Focus of Group: Groups address anxiety in social situations (e.g., making new friends, participating in class), avoidance, and fear of being negatively evaluated by others.
Middle School Social Anxiety Groups
- Age range: 10-13 (grades 5-8)
- Meeting times: 1x per week (90 minutes) for 10-12 weeks, OR intensively (3x or 5x per week for 1, 2, or 3 weeks)
- Location: 3 Columbus Circle
- Focus of Group: Groups are ideal for middle school students who have difficulty in social situations due to anxiety resulting in distress, avoidance of interacting with peers and adults, and/or feeling comfortable in school, family, and extracurricular activities.
OCD “Boot Camp”
- Age range: Separate groups are formed for school-age children, adolescents and adults
- Meeting times: Varies
- Location: 155 White Plains Rd #200, Tarrytown, NY 10591
- Focus of Group: CUCARD Westchester provides a 5-day accelerated “Boot Camp” group treatment program for children, adolescents and adults struggling with OCD. Groups last for 90 minutes each day during the week and are intended to supplement ongoing individual treatment, or to provide “booster” sessions for those who have completed treatment. Groups involve:
- Repeated daily exposure to feared situations
- Strategies for challenging OCD at home, school, or work
- Support from other individuals struggling with OCD.
Parenting Groups
- Age range: Parents of children 8-14
- Meeting times: Friday 9-10:30am
- Location: 155 White Plains Rd #200, Tarrytown, NY 10591
- Focus of Group: CUCARD Westchester provides an 8-week group for parents of children ages 8 to 14 who struggle to comply with directions, break rules, have a hard time not getting their way, or have trouble focusing and/or sitting still. In this group, parents learn the essentials of behavior change, including how to increase desirable behavior and decrease problem behavior, apply appropriate rewards and consequences, gradually shape more difficult behaviors, and work with schools to continue progress made at home in the classroom. Children do not need to be current patients at CUCARD Westchester for parents to participate in this group.
Parents of Young Adults Groups
- Age range: Parents of young adults who are 18-28
- Meeting times: 1x (90 minutes) per week for 5-6 weeks
- Location: 3 Columbus Circle
- Focus of Group: A component of our Launching Emerging Adults Program (LEAP) at CUCARD is a brief psycho-educational and skills group for parents of emerging adults with anxiety disorders. This group is ideal for parents of young adults who have been experiencing distress or "failure to launch" and meet the demands of emerging adulthood due to anxiety.
School Anxiety Groups for Adolescents and Their Parents
- Age range: 14-17 for adolescent group; parents of children of all ages welcome in parent group
- Meeting times: Tuesdays 5-6:30 (parent and adolescent groups run simultaneously by different clinicians)
- Location: 155 White Plains Rd #200, Tarrytown, NY 10591
- Focus of Group: CUCARD Westchester offers weekly group treatment for both adolescents struggling with school-related anxiety and their parents. Both groups are intended to supplement individual therapy occurring either at CUCARD Westchester or another setting.
- The adolescent group will:
- Provide a supportive environment for group members to share experiences with other adolescents struggling with school-related anxiety
- Review cognitive-behavioral strategies to manage anxiety
- Guide group members in facing feared school-related situations
- The parent group will:
- Assist parents in developing and executing more effective behavior-management strategies related to school avoidance
- Guide parents in collaborating with school officials to facilitate their child’s consistent school attendance
- Afford the opportunity for group members to meet and learn from other parents dealing with similar challenges
- The adolescent group will:
YAC (Youth Anxiety Center) Social Anxiety Groups
- Age range: 18-28
- Meeting times: 1x per week (90 minutes) for 10-12 weeks, OR intensively (3x or 5x per week for 1, 2, or 3 weeks)
- Location: 3 Columbus Circle and 155 White Plains Rd #200, Tarrytown, NY 10591
- Focus of Group: As a part of our Launching Emerging Adults Program (LEAP), CUCARD midtown offers groups for young adults ages 18-28 who are experiencing distress or interference in functioning due to social anxiety. Groups are presented in an exposure-based approach to reduce anxiety and increase self-efficacy in managing anxiety-provoking and developmentally challenging situations (e.g., job/college interviews, dating, assertiveness).
