Patient Stories

Doctors used advanced 3D heart modeling to help plan care for an infant born with a very complex congenital heart condition. The baby’s heart was located on the right side of the chest instead of the left, and several major blood vessels were not connected in the usual way.

To better understand the baby’s unique anatomy, the care team created detailed digital and physical 3D models of the heart. These models allowed the surgeon to see exactly how blood was flowing and plan a single surgery to correct all of the abnormalities at once.

Several versions of the 3D models were created to provide as much detail as possible. This careful planning helped guide the placement of surgical patches and reduced the need for multiple procedures.
