Food Intolerance

What is food intolerance?

A food intolerance is an negative response to food that is not a true allergy. Some of the symptoms of food intolerance and food allergy are similar, but distinguishing between the two is important for optimal management.

The allergist can help you distinguish this from a food allergy. Examples of food intolerance:

  • MSG reaction
  • food poisoning
  • lactose intolerance

It is recommended to see an allergist if you believe you may have a food allergy or are limiting your diet because of a suspected food intolerance or allergy.
