NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center Badge
Columbia University's Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center is one of only 48 comprehensive cancer centers

Cancer can be complicated, but cancer care shouldn’t be.

At ColumbiaDoctors, we want to ensure that the more than 3,500 new patients who come here annually receive compassionate, state-of-the-art medical care. We can do this because our patients receive care from an integrated, multidisciplinary team that includes physicians who are global leaders in clinical care as well as innovative technologies, genetic discoveries, and "bench to bedside" research.

In fact, all ColumbiaDoctors oncologists and hematologists are affiliated with Columbia University’s Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center (HICCC), one of only 48 institutions in the United States and only three in New York State recognized as a comprehensive cancer center by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Our ColumbiaDoctors practices are conveniently located at the Herbert Irving Pavilion in Washington Heights, as well as in midtown Manhattan and other sites within New York City and Westchester County, and can offer seamless outpatient and inpatient care within the CUIMC system.

Together, our resources and expertise as the top National Institutes of Health-funded research center in New York and the No. 1 hospital in New York enable the most advanced cancer care possible – authority that allows us to offer the most advanced diagnostics and therapies for all types of cancer, from common types like breast, colon, and lung cancer to the rarest malignancies. Using this knowledge, we work with each patient to create a personalized treatment plan that leverages the latest and most effective evidence-based therapies and extensive clinical trials of new drugs and treatments, including immunotherapies in our Experimental Therapeutics/Phase I program.

Innovations developed at Columbia have shaped cancer medical practice today, including the first blood test for prostate cancer, the first use of radioactive isotopes to treat thyroid cancer, and the identification of several major cancer-associated genes, including P-TEN, a tumor suppressor gene whose malfunction is involved in many brain, breast, and prostate cancers. Columbia’s oncology-related technology expertise has yielded discoveries resulting in more than two dozen patents and nearly 40 licenses, including one for cancer-imaging software now in use globally.
