College Student Has Big Plans After Care from Columbia Doctors

October 2, 2023

Francisca Kwakye is a junior at the University of Pennsylvania, where she is pursuing her dreams of bringing better access to world-class care for more people, regardless of their income. That dream was partially inspired by her own experience of receiving a life-changing stem cell transplant to treat sickle cell disease, a painful and often life-threatening inherited disorder, from Columbia doctors at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, led by Monica Bhatia, MD, a pediatric hematologist and associate professor of pediatrics at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
