Advanced Care for Colorectal Diseases

The Center For Liver Disease and Transplantation

The Center for Liver Disease and Transplantation provides multidisciplinary care for patients with liver cancer, cirrhosis and other forms of liver failure. The CTLDT has pioneered laparoscopic living donor liver donation and partial liver transplants that allow a patient’s own liver to heal and function on its own.

Small Bowel/Multivisceral/Ex Vivo Transplant Program

Our Transplant Team includes leaders in intestinal, or small bowel, transplantation for those with intestinal failure, and in multivisceral transplantation for those who need multiple organs transplanted at once. Our surgeons have pioneered the highly specialized Ex Vivo Transplant for invasive cancers, in which a patient’s organs are operated on outside of the body, then re-implanted once the cancer cells have been removed.

The Center for Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery

Our Center for Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery offers the latest, cutting-edge approaches to weight loss and treats patients at five locations throughout the New York area. The Hernia Center at Columbia is dedicated to the prompt and expert evaluation of abdominal wall hernias that have arisen spontaneously or as a result of previous surgery. The Heart Valve Center

Our surgeons at Columbia’s Heart Valve Center are at the forefront of innovation in the treatment of valve disease. Our team pioneered the TAVR procedure, a minimally invasive technique to replace damaged aortic valves, and they are national leaders in the minimally invasive treatment of mitral valve regurgitation.

Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Interventions

The Adult Congenital Heart Center

Kidney Surgery

The Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Program

Our surgical team at The Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Program performs 250-260 kidney transplants a year for people with end-stage kidney disease, making us one of the top programs in the country. For cases of severe kidney disease due to type 1 diabetes, we offer combined kidney and pancreas transplants, which can be both life-saving and curative.

Lung, Esophagus and Thoracic Surgery 

The Chest Center

The Price Family Chest Center for lung and esophageal diseases delivers the most advanced surgical treatments for lung cancer, pulmonary hypertension, interstitial lung disease, emphysema, esophageal cancer, pectus excavatum, and benign esophageal disease. Center for Advanced Lung Disease and Transplantation

The Center for Lung Disease and Advanced Transplantation was launched in 1985. It is known internationally for its stellar results and leading contributor to basic scientific and clinical research in transplantation. We now perform 75 single and double lung transplants a year.  In the past seven years, our surgeons have made improvements in care that have increased the long-term survival rate for lung transplantation nationwide by 50%. We have also established a new protocol to expand the pool of available donor lungs for transplant. Our three-year patient survival rate is an impressive 81%—13 points higher than the national average.

The Pulmonary Hypertension Comprehensive Care Center

Columbia has the largest pulmonary hypertension center in the world. We treat all causes of the disease, and our surgeons are among the few in the nation who routinely perform life-saving surgical clot removals for those with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension.

Center for Acute Respiratory Failure and ECMO

Our multidisciplinary team provides the most advanced treatment for acute respiratory failure using ECMO—a bypass machine that supports the lung. Our ECMO program is one of the largest in the world, with over 200 cases per year and is the world’s most experienced in medical ECMO transport.

The Esophageal Disorders Program

Our Esophageal Disorders Program provides the latest surgical solutions for esophageal cancer, achalasia, Barrett's esophagus, gastroesophageal reflux, and other esophageal disorders. Our team is currently developing new diagnostic, interventional, and surgical approaches to minimize risks, foster faster recoveries, and produce even better outcomes.

Diaphragm Center

The Diaphragm Center employs surgical techniques to treat patients with paralyzed diaphragms, which, if untreated, can result in either reduced exercise tolerance or, in some patients with spinal cord injuries, respiratory failure, and ventilatory dependence. Few surgical teams in the world can match the number of patients we treat with paralyzed diaphragms. 

The Women’s Lung and Health Center

Our Women’s and Lung and Health Center is focused on providing the best and most efficient care for women with lung diseases. Recognizing the disparity in treatment and diagnosis between men and women with lung conditions, our Center provides specialized care for women and provides full-service support, including nutritional counseling, survivorship programs for those facing cancer, and personal guidance.

The Center for Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating of the hands is a very common problem that can have a profound impact on all aspects of someone's life. Many people with this condition suffer in silence, unaware that treatment is available. At the Center for Hyperhidrosis, patients with this problem can be evaluated and treated by a team of doctors, who are committed to curing this disorder.
