Genetic Disorders

About Genetic Disorders

There are some eye diseases and conditions that have a genetic component. Since these diseases are inherited, there are often other family members who may be affected by the same eye condition. If your family knows about an inherited eye that already exists, early evaluation and intervention for your child are crucial. We take a compassionate approach to care so that your whole family will also feel supported.

Genetic Disorder Conditions

There are several genetic eye disorders that we treat. Some of these disorders include:

  • Neurofibromatosis - a genetic nervous system condition that can affect the optic nerve
  • Ocular albinism - genetic conditions and the eyes can appear pink or red
