Changes in the forehead are often some of the earliest signs of aging. As the skin loses elasticity over time, the brows can descend and horizontal creases can form, creating a tired or tense appearance. A brow lift restores a more open, rejuvenated look by repositioning the brow and smoothing the forehead.
At Columbia, our board-certified facial plastic surgeons take a personalized approach to brow and forehead lifts—focusing on natural-looking results that enhance your features while preserving your unique expression.
What Is a Brow and Forehead Lift?
A brow lift is a surgical procedure that repositions the skin and underlying tissues of the upper face. This can elevate the brows, soften lines, and restore a more rested appearance.
This procedure is often chosen by people who feel their expression doesn’t match how they feel—such as appearing tired, concerned, or older than they are.
Brow and forehead lifts can:
- Raise low or drooping brows
- Improve eyebrow symmetry
- Reduce the size of the forehead
- Smooth horizontal forehead lines and vertical creases between the brows
- Reduce or tighten the skin between the brows and eyelids
Brow and Forehead Lifts at Columbia
We offer two kinds of brow and forehead lifts. Your surgeon will evaluate your facial structure, hairline, skin quality, and goals to recommend the best approach for you.
- Coronal brow lift: This classic technique involves a large incision across the top of the scalp to remove excess skin and tissue.
- Pretrichial forehead and brow lift: This approach consists of an incision made directly in front of the hairline to remove excess skin and tissue, lifting the forehead and brows.
- Temporal pretrichial brow lift: Temporal pretrichial brow lifts raise the outer portion, or tail, of the brows using small incisions near the temples.
What to Expect From a Brow and Forehead Lift
Brow lifts are traditionally performed using local anesthesia and take 1-2 hours, depending on the technique used. You may experience mild discomfort and bruising near the incisions for 1-2 weeks following the procedure. Your care team will provide clear post-procedure instructions and guide you through recovery.
