Inspire Therapy for Sleep Apnea

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common and serious condition in which individuals have repeated collapse of their upper airway during sleep. If you have struggled with using CPAP or do not get consistent benefit with CPAP, Inspire therapy (hypoglossal nerve stimulation) may be a valuable treatment option.

Inspire therapy is an implantable treatment that delivers therapeutic stimulation to your tongue and airway muscles. By stimulating these muscles, Inspire therapy prevents collapse of your upper airway during sleep. You use a handheld remote to control Inspire therapy (no mask or other devices needed).

Am I a Candidate for Inspire Therapy?

Adults may qualify for this therapy if you:

  • Have moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea
  • Are unable to use or tolerate CPAP
  • Have a body mass index (BMI) of around 35 or less
  • Do not have certain diseases or conditions that may disqualify you for this option

Your doctor will evaluate your overall health, your sleep apnea history, review your sleep studies, and perform a detailed assessment of your upper airway to determine if Inspire therapy may be right for you.
