Spasticity Management

At Columbia University Irving Medical Center’s Department of Rehabilitation and Regenerative Medicine, we offer the most advanced treatments for spasticity available in healthcare today. Because the effects of spasticity can vary from person to person, a careful evaluation and personalized treatment plan are very important. You will meet with a board-certified physiatrist who will evaluate your needs and develop a care plan that may include the use of Botulinum Toxin (Botox®, Dysport®, and others), phenol injections, intrathecal baclofen pumps, and other treatments to relax muscles and reduce excess muscle contractions. Other treatments may include splinting, bracing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or speech and swallowing therapy.

Our physiatrists help patients and their families decide on a treatment plan based on their particular symptoms and needs. We have physicians specializing in both adult and pediatric patients.”
