About Orthopedic Oncology Care

Orthopedic oncology focuses on the evaluation and management of tumors of the musculoskeletal system, including bone tumors and soft tissue tumors. These tumors may be benign (noncancerous) or malignant (cancerous), and can originate in the bones and soft tissues or spread to these areas from other parts of the body.

What We Do

Our specialists are trained to diagnose and treat a range of conditions, including osteosarcoma, Ewing sarcoma, chondrosarcoma, soft tissue sarcomas, benign bone cysts, giant cell tumors, and metastatic bone disease. Treatment may involve observation, biopsy, limb-sparing surgery, reconstructive procedures, radiation therapy, and/or systemic treatments such as chemotherapy or targeted therapies.

Experience

Our orthopedic oncologists are fellowship-trained surgeons with extensive experience diagnosing and treating both benign and malignant musculoskeletal tumors. Their specialized expertise allows them to plan and perform complex surgeries that remove tumors while preserving as much function as possible.

Expertise

We treat the full spectrum of musculoskeletal tumors, including osteosarcoma, Ewing sarcoma, chondrosarcoma, soft tissue sarcomas, benign bone tumors, and metastatic bone disease. Our surgeons are leaders in limb-sparing surgery, reconstructive procedures, and advanced surgical techniques designed to maintain mobility and quality of life.

Cutting-Edge Resources

Our team utilizes state-of-the-art imaging techniques (MRI, CT, PET) and image-guided biopsy methods to achieve precise diagnoses. We offer the latest techniques and technologies, including custom implants, biologic reconstruction, and computer-assisted surgical planning. We collaborate closely with medical and radiation oncology teams to coordinate efficient, multidisciplinary care.

Thoughtful Care

Not all tumors require surgery. Some benign lesions can be safely observed, while others may need minimally invasive procedures. For malignant tumors, we carefully plan surgery and other treatments to maximize survival while preserving function and quality of life. We provide honest and compassionate guidance at every step, helping patients and their families understand their options.

Personalized Treatment

Every diagnosis is unique. Our personalized treatment plans are tailored to the type of tumor, its location, the patient’s age, overall health, and personal goals. We work closely with patients, families, and other specialists to create a treatment strategy that prioritizes both cure and quality of life.
