Harnessing the Power of Imaging to Provide Treatments Without the Risks of Open Surgery

Interventional radiologists prepare to perform minimally invasive procedure.

Interventional Radiology

Interventional radiology is a novel and innovative field in which specialists use image guidance and minimally-invasive tools to perform procedures that would otherwise require open surgery. The imaging techniques—X-ray, ultrasound, CT, and MRI—enable interventional radiologists to view specific areas inside the body and to place catheters, insert medical devices, and treat specific areas of disease. Most of the time, this means that our patients go home on the day of their procedure with a Band-Aid instead of an incision. Our interventional radiologists perform thousands of procedures each year, including treatment for cancer, fibroids, varicose veins, and kidney disease.
