Columbia Day Program

The Columbia Day Program is a unique comprehensive clinic in midtown New York for individuals who have been hospitalized or are having significant difficulties with school or work due to mental illness and/or addiction.  We help our patients make a smooth and confident return to the responsibilities of daily life.

Founded thirty-five years ago, the clinic now offers over one hundred support groups for adults aged 18 and over who are suffering from depression, mood swings, anxiety/panic attacks, eating disorders, substance abuse, and bipolar and other psychological disorders.  There is no waiting list for our program, and thanks to our streamlined evaluation process, patients are usually accepted within two days.

Our therapists draw upon a wide range of proven techniques and approaches, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing (MI), psychodynamic therapy, interpersonal, life skills enhancement, psycho-education, and mindfulness.

Our program provides general therapy, addresses symptoms and self-defeating habits, and teaches practical life skills.  We also offer special groups for parents, siblings, and spouses.  We work with entire families in this group setting as well as with individual families.

In addition, we collaborate with Columbia’s Lieber Recovery and Rehabilitation Clinic to help our patients with executive function issues, including memory, concentration, and problem-solving.

Our College Track Young people struggling with mental illness may feel overwhelmed once they go off to college and have to take a leave of absence.  We prepare students to go back to school and function on their own, from freshman year through graduate school.  We also assist in getting students reinstated and prepare them to enter the job market.
Adults Beyond College Adults with psychological disorders may be especially challenged after starting a relationship or getting married, finishing school, taking a new job, having a child, or dealing with other high-stress situations.  We help them return to their usual routines and also work with employers to assist with career goals.
