Preparing for Your Visit

During your upcoming appointment, measurements of your eye will be taken, your pupils will be dilated, and you will meet the doctor and staff to discuss the stage of your cataracts and various options for cataract surgery.

The following information will help educate you on the various options available for custom cataract correction. This will ensure that you have the best vision that you can have for the rest of your life.

Preparing for Your Initial Cataract Evaluation

  • Discontinue contact lens wear if you wear contact lenses. This allows for the most accurate measurement of your eyes for surgery. If you fail to do so, you may be asked to return for repeat measurements:
  • If you wear rigid/gas permeable or soft toric (Astigmatism) lenses: discontinue wear for two weeks before the appointment
  • If you wear soft regular lenses, stop wear for one week before the appointment

Previous Laser Eye Surgery Such As LASIK, PRK, or RK

Prior laser correction surgery will change the shape of your eye and needs to be considered during your measurements. If possible, previous records are helpful and should be brought to your appointment.
