Dr. Thomas G. Pickering, Pioneer in Hypertension Research

Re-launched in 2017, our Hypertension Center is inspired by the work of Thomas Pickering, MD, who was a world-renown pioneer in hypertension research and founder of the Center for Behavioral Cardiovascular Health. He was responsible for popularizing the current approach to diagnosing and treating hypertension by relying on measurements outside of the doctor’s office.

On a personal note, Dr. Pickering fostered collaboration, collegiality, and attention to detail in all of his work. These characteristics remain signatures of our Hypertension Center to this day.
